MCI reduced MBBS seats in West Bengal to half

MCI (Medical Council of India) has reduced MBBS seats in the different Medical Colleges of West Bengal to half. It is a very sad and shocking news for all those students who wanted to take admission in various Medical Colleges of the state for the MBBS course this year. Medical Council of India has asked seven Medical Colleges of West Bengal to avoid admission for the MBBS course this year.

In addition to it, Medical Council of India has also reduced 1700 MBBS seats in the ten Medical Colleges of the state to 1255 seats only. Last year there were 2450 MBBS seats in the 17 Medical Colleges of West Bengal. Medical Council of India has taken this harsh decision due to lack of infrastructure in these Medical Colleges of the state.

Four government Medical Colleges of the state located in Barrackpore, Malda, Joka and Murshidabad will not be able to take admission for the MBBS courses this year after the decision of Medical Council of India. There were 750 MBBS seats in these Medical colleges of the West Bengal. The seven Medical colleges of West Bengal banned by MCI for taking admission into MBBS courses this year are as follows.

1)      ESIC Medical College (Joka)
2)      Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital (Murshidabad)
3)      College of Medicine and Sagore Dutta Hospital (Barrackpore)
4)      College of Medicine & JNM Hospital (Kalyani)
5)      ICARE Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (Haldia)
6)      IQ-City Medical College (Burdwan)
7)      Malda Medical College and Hospital (Malda)

Last year before the start of National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) MCI had increased MBBS seats in many Medical Colleges of the country. But due to lack of infrastructure in the Medical Colleges of West Bengal MCI was forced to take this decision. State government need to look after the conditions of these colleges so that MCI can reverse its decision from the next year onwards.
