Admission in IIT with 75 Percent Marks in the Board Exams

Getting admission in an IIT institute is the dream of almost every student of PCM stream. But very few ultimately succeed in achieving their goal. Undoubtedly getting admission in an IIT is not a cakewalk at all. And hence students who succeed in taking admission in IIT must be credited for their efforts that they invest to fulfill their dreams. Few years back the pattern of IIT entrance exam was changed. In the new pattern it was made compulsory for the IIT aspirants to perform well in the respective Board exams as well as in the entrance exam.

In the new pattern students were required to be in the list of top 20 percentile getters in the respective Board exams. This rule was enforced three years back so that students take their Board exams more seriously. Additionally students also needed to clear JEE Advanced to become eligible for taking admission in an IIT. Due to implementation of these rules thousands of students failed to take admission in the IITs even after getting over 80 or 90 percent in the Board exams simply because they could not make into the list of top 20 percentile getters.

There is good news for the tens and thousands of IIT aspirants all across the country as IIT Joint Admission Board (JAB) has now decided to change the admission procedure from the next academic session. Those students who fail to make into the list of top 20 percentile getters of the Board exams will also be able to take admission in an IIT provided they secure at least 75 percent in their respective Board exams

In a recent IIT council meeting in Chennai which was headed by Union HRD minister it was decided that students securing 75 percent marks in their Board exams can also take admission in IIT provided they clear JEE Advanced Test. At the same time the top 20 percentile rule will also remain functional to aid students coming from different State Boards where scoring scheme is much stricter. Hence now it is mandatory for students to clear JEE Advanced Test and to secure either 75 percent marks or come in the list of top 20 percentile getters to be eligible for taking admission in IIT.

The new changes will provide fair opportunities to every IIT aspirant to fulfill their dreams which will come into effect from the academic session 2015-2016. It will also ensure that there is no discrimination between students who have made into the list of top 20 percentile and those who couldn’t even after obtaining 80 or 90 odd percent in the Board exams. This new change will bring smiles on the faces of several IIT aspirants.
